In September, new electronic duo Door Policy announced themselves to the world with their impressive debut EP, ‘No Cover Charge’. The three-track EP introduced an unsuspecting audience to their genre-defying musical blend and rightfully won support from MistaJam on BBC Radio 1Xtra as well as substantial press backing. Now, Takura and Bibby Jones, are building on those foundations with a fresh track to sate people’s appetites while we eagerly await more new music.
Proving as unpredictable as ever, they have taken on indie songstress Lana Del Rey’s ‘Pepsi Cola’, imbuing it with their own distinctive flavour. Speaking about why they chose to cover this track Door Policy said:
“We wanted to create our own version of something no one would expect us to do. We are big fans of Lana so flipping this song felt perfect! It’s just a taste of what’s coming from us next year and we’re excited to get this out for people to hear.”
The track itself is a smooth & sleek house version that takes the original and moves it firmly onto the dance floor. Layering soft synths over a steady beat and bumping, funk-lined bassline, front man Takura’s rich vocals ensure it retains all the soul of Del Rey while giving it a new lease of life.
Building on the foundations laid by their debut EP, this new cover version is a worthy addition to Door Policy’s growing musical portfolio and one that further asserts the undeniable prowess of this fledgling act.
